We’re recruiting now! Here at Newport Youth Council we have a number of exciting new opportunities available. Join us and #BeYourBrilliantSelf.

Who We Are & Why We Do This

We are a group of people aged between 11-25, actively engaged in representing young people’s views and opinions.

With support and guidance from Newport City Council we ensure that young people have a voice and help to shape the future in the city for future generations.

We do this in line with United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child and the local authority’s duty to engage with young people. Each area within Wales must facilitate a Youth Council to allow young people to influence local decision making and provide every young person with the platform to make positive change.

If you would like to know more about our growing organisation please click here or follow us on Twitter and Instagram.

Duke of Edinburgh's Award

The Duke of Edinburgh (DofE) programme is open to anyone aged between 14 and 24 years who would like to learn a new skill, volunteer, undertake a physical activity and complete an expedition.

Complete a bronze, silver or gold level and achieve an award by completing a personal programme of activities in four sections, or five if you're going for gold.

Along the way you’ll pick up experiences, friends and talents that will stay with you for the rest of your life.

The DofE is run in Newport's secondary schools, youth clubs, Coleg Gwent and the Share Centre, Stow Hill.

Bronze level takes six months to complete, silver a year and gold 18 months.

Email duke.edinburgh@newport.gov.uk or visit the Duke of Edinburgh's Award website for more information.
