Newport’s annual service to welcome the city’s new Mayor will take place in Newport Cathedral on Stow Hill on Sunday 9 June.
Councillor William J Routley became Newport’s 387th Mayor in May this year and is being supported during his year of office by his partner Alison Robbins, the new Mayoress.
The Mayor’s Civic Service is one of the council’s major annual events and is an opportunity for the city to welcome its latest first citizen.
During the service, which will be led by the Dean of the Cathedral, there will be readings by the Leader of Newport City Council, Councillor Debbie Wilcox, and the Mayor.
Music will be provided by the Choir of Newport Cathedral.
Members of the public are welcome and those attending are advised to arrive at Newport Cathedral by 2.45pm. Parking is limited around the church and people are encouraged to park elsewhere or walk if possible.
