COVID-19: for the health and welfare of members of the public and staff we are restricting visitors to our building. 

Certificate issue (from our archives) during the pandemic period

Please call us on (01633) 235510 / 235520 to make your application and payment by telephone. 

No certificates may be applied for in person at our building – all applications must be made by telephone, email or letter.

All certificates will be posted by recorded delivery to your home, please ensure you are at home to receive them - please do not send a stamped, addressed envelope. 

If your request is urgent, collection may be arranged strictly by appointment only.


For a certified copy of a birth, death or marriage certificate where the event took place in the Newport district, apply to Newport Register Office.

Priority service

COVID-19: the information below relating to visiting the office is not operational at the moment - please do not attend unless you have an appointment.

In person: certificates cost £35 each when using this service and are issued the same day when the application is received before 3pm.

Certificates can be obtained by visiting our office on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 9am and 3pm and on Tuesdays 9.30am to 3pm, completing an application form and waiting for the certificate to be issued.

If you are unable to wait for the certificate, we can post it to you for an additional fee of £2 per envelope - up to five certificates may be posted in one envelope - and we will send it by first-class signed for post once the entry has been found and checked.

Please note that applications are dealt with on a first-come, first-served basis, and waiting times may be longer during busy periods.

Email and telephone: certificates cost £35 each when using this service and are issued the same day when the application and payment are received before 12pm.

We will contact you to take payment when the certificate is ready and you can either call into the office to collect your certificate or pay an additional fee of £2 per envelope - up to five certificates may be posted in one envelope - and we will send it by first-class signed for post. 

Standard service

You may request this service by visiting our office on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday between 9am and 3pm and on Tuesdays 9.30am to 3pm, completing an application form and leaving it with us.

We will contact you to take payment when the certificate is ready.

You can either call into the office to collect your certificate that day, or pay an additional fee of £2 per envelope - up to five certificates may be posted in one envelope - and we will send it by first-class signed for post.

International

The certificate will then be posted to you for the additional fee below. 

2. Standard service:  certificates cost £11 each and are issued within 15 working days of receipt of a written application.

The certificate will then be posted to you for an additional fee of £10 per envelope - up to five certificates may be sent in one envelope - which are sent via tracked and signed for airmail.
