Apply for a school place

An application must be made for every child requiring a school place.

Apply for nursery, reception or secondary school

This is where you make an application for the normal year of entry into a school and is known as the normal admissions round.

It is vital that you submit your application by the deadline – if you submit your application late it is less likely that your child will be able to gain a place at the school of your choice.

Read the school admissions policy 2020/21 (pdf) before making an application so that you understand the terms and conditions under which you are making your application.

Read the online application user guide.

To apply for a school place in the current summer term (academic year 2018/2019) complete the in-year application form 2018/19 (pdf) to transfer your child's school (outside of the normal year of entry).

We welcome enquiries from parents wishing to transfer their child from English to Welsh-medium education.

Pupils can be given additional language support to transfer and this is usually successful.

Contact your catchment Welsh-medium school or email school.admissions@newport.gov.uk for more information.
