Following consultation, Newport City Council has put in place a Public Space Protection Order (PSPO) in Pillgwenlly (Pill) with the backing of partners including Gwent Police.
The PSPO restricts certain anti-social behaviour in public spaces in Pill and deals with the types of behaviour that local people said concerned them.
It means that:
1. No one is allowed to drink alcohol in a public place unless they are on licensed premises. If someone does this, a police officer can take the alcohol from them. Maximum penalty £500
2. Groups of three or more people must break up if a police officer asks them to. People are still allowed to gather in groups and this power will only be used if the group is behaving in an anti-social, intimidating or criminal way. Maximum penalty £1,000
3. No one is allowed to sell, use or possess intoxicating substances - this does not include tobacco products or prescribed medicines. If someone does this, a police officer can take the substances from them. Maximum penalty £1,000
